A few years ago, I came across this quote from Lewis Platt, former CEO of HP. It struck me that he had condensed the whole issue of the Data, Information, Knowledge, Wisdom chain into a few short words.

At the same time, I came across a report from IBM that said that the typical company takes only 2% to 4% of transactional data gathered from Point-of-Sale data into account when making profit affecting business decisions. I’m afraid I can’t find the source of this report now which is intensely frustrating. As a result

Retailers and service providers are missing opportunities to improve merchandising

Banks are losing valuable customers

Manufacturers are producing the wrong goods

Extrapolating from this, whatever your line of business, not using the data readily available to its full potential is costing businesses time, money, and opportunity. Trouble is that the amount of data gathered by online transactional processing (OLTP) systems is rising exponentially—it doubles every two to three years.

Data in itself is not much use, we need to turn it into corporate wisdom so we can take actions to increase profit, which is why I set up IPcubed. I want to focus on solutions that help organisations transform data into profit.
